I have relatives in various locations that I can bring my pets to should something happen. I'd stay behind with them in a heartbeat if I had to though.

I would never leave my babies behind. I would put them in their carriers and take them with me. If something was preventing me from taking them with me, I would stay behind with them.

I have always wondered what I would do, and I always come up with the same answer: I couldn't live with myself if I left them behind or survived and they didn't. And yes, I do have a plan for emergency's:)

Great question! The ASPCA website is helpful. People need to remember they need to find pet friendly motels, or friends/family members who can shelter their pets. Red Cross shelters do not now, and don't ever plan on allowing pets in, so assuming that you'll find a place if a disaster happens is not a good idea. We all need to plan in advance. I have my cats' vet records, so into the carriers they would go. They get bottled water, so food and water wouldn't be a problem. I have sisters and brothers all over the place, so that's where I'd go.

Since I live in Florida, this is something my family and I have thought about a lot.
Usually, we all agree that should we have to evacuate, we'd gather all of our pets (we have adequate carriers for all of the cats and dogs, mind you.) and go stay at my grandparent's house, even if her area was being evacuated as well.

We couldn't abandon them, so honestly the only option we see is to sit tight and struggle through it with them. Going somewhere without them isn't an option as if anything were to happen to even a rat, my dad and I couldn't forgive ourselves. Lucky for us we live in an area of Florida that has yet to see any real hurricane action, and when it has seen some aftermath or storms coming from the hurricane, we do just as I said before, because my grandmother's home is at a higher elevation, as well as all brick and is easily boarded up, etc.

If there came a point where our houses were destroyed and we managed to make it through the hurricane there are plenty of places we could go, with our hoard of animals, as most of our extended family, as well as my husbands, live's all around the US, not just down south.

Sadly, we can't make preperations for our fish, which is greatly upsetting to me. For them I just plan on praying...

What scares me more than a hurricane or evacuation is the thought of my house catching fire, because there is so little warning. But you better believe my butt would be dead before I'd stand by and watch the house go down without at least trying to get all of my babies out.

I wouldn't abandon my pets either. I guess I'm lucky that I don't live in an area that's likely to be hit by severe floods, tornadoes, earthquakes etc.

I live alone at the moment but the plan for when I'm back home has been the same since I was little and I'm sure that one of my aunt's wouldn't mind temporarily housing my cat if necessary. The only problem would be the fish... if I had the time I'd get a bucket and save them too but otherwise I'd just have to grab the cat off the end of my bed and get a move on. Poor fish!

Hartz Flea and Tick Shampoo in 12 oz, doesnt kill fleas like it says it will. Yes it will clean your cat, make it smell nice, give it a shiny coat but kill fleas? Not so much.

I had noticed some fleas on my indoor cat, we do not use regular flea killing products like Advantage Once-A-Month Topical Flea Treatment for Cats Over 9 Lbs (6 Applications)Because we rarely ever need to. So I bought this shampoo and used it and it didnt kill one of them, I even looked in the tub after I did it to check! no floating corpses. So I waited and waited a few days, remember this stuff is supposed to last awhile and keep killing the biting pests! It didnt.

I guess I will have to break down and get the expensive stuff!

We typically get plenty of warning before hurricanes hit...if one was targeted for my area (and I've ridden out Ivan and Dennis here in NW FL) and I felt I needed to leave my home, I'd take any pets I had with me as I moved inland to stay with friends or family in a safer place.

Only if no other option was available, would I leave them behind to fend for themselves...as much as I've ever loved every animal companion I ever had, I would not put my life in immanent danger for them. My life would have to come first.
